ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Reporting to the Executive Director of Business Development & Strategic Communications, the Assistant Director of Business Development will help shape and implement tactics to support the firm’s communication strategy and business development efforts. This person will work closely with the firm’s Principals, Vice President, Executive Director, and Business Development Coordinator to operationally manage the company’s sales pipeline, and project-manage essential business development initiatives that relate to the firm’s national omnibus student survey, studentPOLL, and presence at conferences throughout the year.
Qualified candidates must flourish in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong attention to detail and deadlines, and be adept at managing multiple projects concurrently with shifting priorities.
This position is an excellent fit for a motivated professional with 2-5 years of experience seeking to deepen their understanding of operational business development, as well as communications and marketing initiatives in a highly collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
Sales Pipeline Management Responsibilities:
Manage the sales pipeline for the firm’s Principals and Vice President through strategic prospect outreach
Oversee communications campaigns for target audiences at key points throughout the year
Lead regular meetings with Principals to guide strategy for prospect outreach and track progress of weekly tasks
Utilize Salesforce to generate reports, update contact and outreach records, and manage sales opportunities and proposal information
Support as needed with the scheduling of sales pipeline-related meetings
Draft direct communications to prospects as well as support the drafting and editing of broader email marketing campaigns
Review and edit proposals, emails, marketing materials, social media posts, and studentPOLL content for quality and consistency
Collaborate with Managing Associates to support the submission of proposals and responses to Requests For Proposals (RFP)
Manage procurement portals and accounts
Project Management of Major Marketing & Communications Initiatives:
Conferences
Project manage the firm’s attendance at 6-10 conferences each year
Coordinate sponsorship, overall schedule, proposal submission, and any related marketing and communication related to conferences
Plan and execute private events at 2-4 conferences in collaboration with the Executive Director and Principals to demonstrate the firm’s capabilities and engage with a variety of prospects
Create and vet prospect outreach to ensure Principal engagement with high-priority prospects during conferences
Support the Executive Director and Principals in the submission of conference session proposals highlighting the firm’s research and capabilities and support in presentations creation as needed
Manage identification of, and outreach to, potential panelists and/or speakers
Lead post-conference follow-up communications
National Omnibus Survey, studentPOLL
Project manage the life cycle of studentPOLL including four publications annually
Coordinate timelines and collaboration across Principals, Managing Associates, and Research Team
Produce the final draft of designed report in InDesign in preparation for publication
Draft and manage marketing communications for each issue
Coordinate media outreach to promote publications
Company-Wide Responsibilities:
Participate in internal equity group work aimed at driving positive change across the company and with our engagement with clients
Monitor industry news to support the development of targeted communications and better understanding of industry trends
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of professional experience
Demonstrable experience in project management, communications, marketing, public relations, higher education, or a related field
Proven ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced team environment
Demonstrated interest or experience in applying racial equity principles in project execution
Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, including handling of confidential information
Strong writing and editing abilities with great attention to detail, including writing content for social media
Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools
Ability to distill and act on feedback from a variety of sources
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Desired Experience:
Experience with content management systems, Salesforce, email marketing platforms, and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
Experience interacting with and supporting leadership and/or C-suite executives
Interest or experience in the education and/or nonprofit sector preferred
This full-time hybrid position currently requires spending two days per week in our Baltimore, Maryland office. Necessary computer hardware will be provided for your home workspace. Occasional travel may be required. Salary will be in the $55,000 to $65,000 range and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
